Po Lin Monastery remains one of the most visited tourist attractions in Hong Kong.
Situated at Ngong Ping along side the Tai Tien Big Buddha the temple is also within walking distance of the Wisdom Path and many smaller temples and monasteries. Surrounding the monastery are wonderful scenery and mountains and the monastery can boast some majestic buildings. The Po Lin Monastery can trace it's history back to 1904 when three monks built a retreat on the site and named it Da Maopeng. At the time, they surely had no idea that their retreat would become so significant to the Buddhist community in Hong Kong. Da Maopeng was renamed Po Lin in 1924 and it has grown in status with wonderful hall, gardens, and monuments. The site also hosts a tea garden and two vegetarian restaurants.
The monastery has some beautiful halls which names are ,Maiteya hall,Banruo hall,the hall of Ti-tsang Bodhisattva and the Da Xiong Bao Dian hall.three buddhas are enshrined in the Da X iong Bao Dian hall and they ars Sakyamuni,Dipamkarara and Maitreya.within the grounds of the monastery is a bell ,a 1000 kilogram bell made of bronze.
Relics exhibition are often viewed within the monastery which are rare and precious.painting and statues of buddhas from the beginning, spectacular,colorful and all within a peaceful surrounding.
