Situated on the north east of Lantau island one of the new towns like Tung Chung, sitting in a bay to the front and surrounding the rest the Lantau hills and country side. Some of the hills/mountains rise up behind Discovery Bay to a height of 465 meters (1525ft).Discovery Bay was only obtainable by ferry but in 2000 a tunnel linking Discovery Bay to the north Lantau highway was opened.Which leads us on to the transport within Discovery Bay if you come to Discovery Bay you will find no cars no taxis, because no private vehicles are allowed ,transportation is by bus or by what most of the residents use and that is golf carts, yes golf carts. Its funny seeing all these carts on the school run running up and down the road with the children perched on the rear, but that is there way.
Other than high rise accommodation there unfortunately doesn't seem a lot within the town, there are no sort of go areas for teenagers and only having one astroturf pitch leaves recreation a bit to be desired.there is how ever a plaza with lots of restaurants and shops. The main recreation within the town seems to be clubs, there are so many clubs to join listed below .
Residents club - Marina club - Golf club - Racket club - Boat club - Rugby club , so many activities make it more enjoyable for residents. There is also an international school a college and religion is covered for all denominations, it also has its own hospital.
Wild life within the surrounding areas of Discovery Bay is birds with different species like, kites, gulls, finches and tits and there used to be dolphins out in the bay but with the expansion on the international airport they are not sighted anymore.
Transportation to Discovery Bay is by ferry from Central pier no3 or ferry from Mui Wo other forms of transport are to Tung Chung ,Sunny Bay and Hong Kong and they are by buses. There is also a shuttle bus service within Discovery Bay
